Action 5 Pro bitrate update

Curious to see the max bitrate now. Before the update, the website said the max was 100Mbps, which was also what I thought was standard at 4K60.

Yeah, it used to be 80Mbps at 4K60.

@Corey
Sounds right, but I think 4K120 was 100Mbps.

Makes sense. Have you updated the firmware yet? I’m still debating whether to get the Action 5 or wait for the Insta360 Ace Pro 2.

Funny that this update came out the day after the Ace Pro 2 was announced. Coincidence?

The Ace Pro 2 still doesn’t support 10-bit video.

Yeah, they probably felt some pressure. I’m leaning toward getting the Action 5 over the Ace Pro 2.

Curious how this will impact battery life, which I think was the original reason they kept the bitrate lower.

Yeah, and overheating too. It might behave like the Osmo Action 4 when you use the higher bitrate.

Anyone tried the update yet? The Action 4 is on sale for $250 today :eyes:

Got the Action 5 open box from Best Buy for $279.99, and they accidentally sent me a brand new adventure bundle. No complaints here!

Any updates? Is the camera better now or is it still not worth buying?

It’s my first action camera, so I don’t have much to compare it to. It’s working great for indoor use, though.

The camera was already good. Now it’s even better.

I noticed that my SD card storage went from 8 hours to 5 hours left after the update, so the file sizes are definitely bigger. Hopefully, the quality is worth it! They also mentioned improved stabilization at low shutter speeds. Does that mean ND filters are now a good idea?

Even if DJI misses the mark at launch, they’re good at rolling out updates quickly to fix things.
