Active track ended in chaos. Drone didn’t stand a chance. Anyone else having issues with it, or is it just me?
I never trust active tracking unless I’m flying high enough to avoid collisions. These drones are awful at spotting branches, in my opinion.

Do drones with lidar do a better job at avoiding stuff like that?

I’ve got an Air 3S, and it saved itself while flying near tall trees. The lidar spotted the branches just in time and stopped the drone.

I wouldn’t count on lidar for everything. Obstacle avoidance is usually meant for big objects like buildings or poles. Smaller stuff like branches can still trip it up.

Looks like the drone just needed a nap. Give it a minute to chill. 
Sounds like it’s time to send in a rescue drone!

Now you’ve got two drones stuck in the tree.
Small world. I used Active Track on a snow trail while tracking my Jeep. The drone didn’t make it. It’s now in pieces.

WRX? My poor Air2 hit the ground in pieces. I even posted the last 15 seconds of its life. Tragic, but kind of funny too.
Bought the Mavic in 2016, bragged about how it wouldn’t crash thanks to obstacle detection. Glad to see the tech hasn’t really improved much.
You only have yourself to blame on this one!
Were you able to rescue it?
As someone who’s flown model planes for decades, I can confirm: trees are sneaky. They move fast near the top and will jump to grab your drone. Not your fault!
