I just ordered a Mini 4 Pro because I want to see the outdoors again, but I’m bedridden. I read that the antennas need a direct line, and now I’m wondering if I can even fly it from my bed.
Will it work if I try to fly it from inside? Or will the signal cut out? If it does, are there any affordable antennas or boosters I can use? Maybe even something I can build myself?

This post is filled with comments encouraging illegal activity. It’s now locked. Mods don’t want to ban people, but one person managed to rack up over 30 reports. They’ve already been banned. Please don’t push the limits, and if you don’t understand the laws, don’t give advice.

If you’re bedridden, you should check out the Oculus Quest and the Wander app. It lets you travel the world virtually.

I have one but never heard of that app. Thanks for the suggestion!

If you’re in the USA, you can’t legally fly outdoors while bedridden because you need to maintain visual line of sight (VLOS).

Most countries with drone laws require VLOS. Ignoring that just makes regulations stricter for everyone.

Chances of getting caught might be low, but it doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

Should we let a blind person ride a motorcycle on the highway just because they want to? Same idea.
You can fly from inside, but you’ll need to keep the drone within VLOS. If you don’t, it would be illegal in most places.

Thanks for the heads-up!
You could have a spotter watch it for you. That might help.

@Vesper
In Europe, that would still require a special license and specific drone classification.

@Vesper
In the US, the spotter must also be able to take over control in an emergency. They can’t just stand there and watch.

Do you have a window you can see out of? That could help you maintain VLOS with some creative positioning.

Legally, you need to keep the drone in your line of sight. Unless it’s hovering outside your window, you might not be flying it legally.

How do people keep VLOS when wearing goggles? Isn’t that impossible?

@Kieran
In some places, you need a spotter to watch the drone while you use goggles.
@Kieran
Yeah, you’re supposed to have a spotter with you for that.
