I’ve been having trouble with birds, especially seagulls and magpies, ganging up and going after my drone. I found this reflective tape that really helps! They still come around but don’t get as close and have stopped attacking. I bought a 1-meter strip for about £3 on eBay.
Bonus: That reflective tape helped me find my crashed drone in a tree. I had to wait until dark and use a flashlight to spot it.
@NEWTON Never thought of that! Smart idea!
Cool, I haven’t had birds attack, but I do worry about them circling. They’re fast!
@Brad Just fly straight up. Birds are bad at flying upward. They usually attack from above.
@WindWeaver4 That works sometimes, but if you’re doing stuff like house surveys where you need a steady shot, flying up quickly isn’t always an option. For commercial drone use, this tape is great. For fun flying, it’s not as necessary.
@Brad Birds are fast flying horizontally, but they can’t go up or down as well as a drone. Watch out for hawks though, they’ll dive right at it!
@Brad Seagulls are the worst during nesting season!
Great tip, drone bro, thanks!
@MaryJane No problem!
I hope it works for you. Haven’t had any bird problems myself lately, but it’s worth a try!
Does this tape add any weight to the drone?
@Claire It probably does. How could it not?
@Luna I’m just trying to stay under 250 grams. Do you think this tape will push it over?
@Claire If someone’s actually weighing your drone, you’ve got bigger problems.
@Alexis > If someone’s weighing your drone you’re already in trouble.
FIFY
@Claire If you’re using the big batteries, you’re probably over 250 grams already.
@Claire It’s probably a few grams of tape, so yeah, it could push a mini over 250g. Worst case, you register it.
@Luna My Mini 3 weighs 249.8 grams, so it’s still under 250g with the tape!
@Claire No one’s going to care about an extra 3 grams.
