Can I bring my drone on the plane with me?

Hey everyone… I’ve got a DJI 4K Mini and I keep it in a case. I’m flying tomorrow on a domestic Delta flight in the US. Can I carry the drone inside my backpack as a personal item? I just don’t want security thinking it’s something sketchy because of the case.

You really think they’ll think it’s a gun? That’s kinda wild man.

Yeah, you can bring it.

This is something you could’ve found in like 5 seconds with a quick search.

You’ll probably need to take it out of the case when you go through security, kind of like how they do with laptops or tablets. Also, just double check the propellers aren’t loose when it’s scanned.

TSA usually just lets me keep mine in the bag during screening. I’ve never had to take it out.

@Luca
Yeah, I think it depends. I had to take mine out when flying internationally once. I had a Phantom 4 and they scanned it sideways outside the case… didn’t love that. Would’ve been safer left packed.

You really could’ve googled this. But yeah, you’re fine to bring it.

Make sure your lithium batteries stay in your carry-on, not in your checked bag. Most airlines have rules for that.

As for the drone, it’s usually fine. One time they asked me to take the controller out because it had a screen and they treated it like a tablet. Same thing happens with phones and laptops.

I’ve been asked if my case was holding a gun too, but I just said it was a drone and kept moving. No big deal.

Yeah I fly with mine all the time. I never check it though, always keep it with me.

I’ve been using my old Mini2 for years. I always pack the drone and controller in my checked bag and take the batteries in my carry-on. Never had any issues, flying both in the US and internationally.
