DJI Neo's camera is amazing at sunrise and sunset

The lighting during these times really makes a difference!

You’ve got some guts flying a small Neo that high. One strong gust of wind and it’s going down.

From what I understand, a single gust isn’t too bad, but if it gets caught in a strong wind current, yeah, that could be a problem.

@Cory
Agreed! Flying in manual mode and then suddenly hitting a gust… the motors scream, but the Neo stabilizes itself after.

I love flying it—it’s boosting my confidence in manual mode. A few more hours and I’ll try full manual on my Avata 2!

@Wylie
I love my Avata 2! So much fun, and you feel a real sense of control.

The image quality is crazy good!

Once you zoom in, you can see it’s not perfect, but it’s definitely good enough for social media posts.

Golden Hour makes everything look better, no matter the camera!

That bridge between the tunnels looks awesome! :slight_smile:

Madeira is super steep, so there are lots of these.

What settings did you use? Looks amazing! :ok_hand::clap:

-0.3 EV (or -0.1, whichever is the first step before zero) + Android’s built-in Honey filter + +5 warmth. That’s it!
Honestly, the real magic here is just the sunlight.

Also:
ƒ/2.8
1/125
ISO 100

All automatic settings—I didn’t adjust anything manually.

Great shot! Where was this taken?

Calheta, Madeira: Google Maps link

What are the drone laws like there for tourists?

The annoying part: You need to mail them a printed, signed PDF where you take full responsibility for your flights and authorize the National Aeronautical Authority to communicate via email. Approval takes about two weeks.

The good part: Once you’re approved, you just apply for permission before each flight (specifying the parish, purpose, and whether you’ll post it online). These requests usually get approved within 10–15 minutes, though they say it can take up to 60 days. I’ve never had one rejected. Not sure what they actually do with the info, besides collecting stats.

This applies to all drones with cameras, even under 250g.

@Cory
That sounds like such a hassle… Might not be worth bringing my drone on a trip there.

It wasn’t too bad, honestly. The hardest part was just figuring everything out and making a plan.

@Cory
Good to know! Thanks.
