DJI offered a 15% discount… not sure whether to buy Flip or Mini 4 Pro

I was offered a 15% discount when I asked DJI about options to replace my drone that crashed in the water. I’m torn between buying the Fly More Combo for the DJI Flip (I like the remoteless operation feature) and the DJI Mini 4 Pro (I’m drawn to its omnidirectional sensing). I don’t have a specific place in mind to use the drone yet, but I think the discount is a good deal, especially when buying in Australia, where it’s cheaper than in the UK or US.

Any opinions based on experience or from a technical standpoint? What made you choose the drone you bought?

The main difference between the two is wind resistance. The Flip has prop guards, which makes it less stable in windy conditions due to its larger surface area. I’ve flown my Mini 4 Pro in 25-27mph winds, and it held up (although it drained the battery quickly). The Mini 4 Pro’s sensors are great for large objects like buildings, but they don’t detect smaller things like wires or tree branches.

I crashed my second-hand Mini 2 badly, sent it to DJI, and they replaced it with a brand new drone for $100, including a 20% discount for ‘customer satisfaction’ with their service.

So for $100, I upgraded from a second-hand drone to a brand new one. I would have even been fine with a refurbished one. For me, the $100 felt like a learning fee since it was my first drone ever.

Mine was $160 for a badly crashed Mini 4 Pro.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to retrieve my drone.

Bummer. Since I got a brand new drone, I was also able to get the DJI Care plan for 2 years. So if I break it again, it’ll only cost me $50 for a new one. And when I send it in, they send a new one directly back to me, so I don’t have to wait for mine to arrive.

I don’t have a Flip, so I can’t compare them directly, but I highly value the omnidirectional obstacle avoidance on the Mini 4 Pro.

Full disclosure though, remoteless operation doesn’t really interest me. If that’s important to you, then you’ll have to decide for yourself. For me, the subject tracking on the Mini 4 Pro is more than enough when I want to get those kinds of shots.
