DJI warranty is trash…

I bought a DJI Mini 4 while on vacation in Japan, and now I’m dealing with a common defect where the camera won’t focus. Turns out it’s a known issue, but DJI wants to charge me $192 to fix it because I bought it outside the U.S.—even though it’s still under warranty.

Really messed up move on their part.

That’s standard for most products—warranty usually only applies in the country where you bought it.

Not true for Apple, Dell, Lenovo, Asus, and Samsung. Most of their stuff has international warranties.

@Perrin
Not always. Samsung won’t cover warranty in Australia if you buy it elsewhere. Same with Insta360. Most companies treat each country separately for warranty claims.

Sounds like you just wanted an easy upvote with that comment.

Did you check if the warranty was actually global before buying?

DJI’s customer service told me it would be covered in the U.S.

Did you read the warranty details before buying?

I’m surprised you even flew in Japan. They require a license, and there are tons of restricted areas where drones are banned. Getting approval takes months.

Does DJI geo-fence all of Japan?

@Blaine
Not sure about Japan, but they removed most of their geofencing in the U.S. this year.

You could try going back to the store where you bought it.

Where I live, if a product is faulty, the seller decides if they’ll repair, replace, or refund it.

At this point, thanks to the Drone Scolds, you should just assume that if anything goes wrong with DJI, it’s your fault.
