I’m thinking about getting my first action camera, specifically the DJI Action 5. I already have a Pixel 8 Pro, which takes great photos, but I’m wondering if the DJI Action 5 will give me better pictures? Should I just stick to my phone for photography?
No, your phone will probably still take better photos in most situations.
These are totally different types of cameras, so it’s hard to compare them directly.
Just keep in mind the DJI Action 5 has a wide-angle lens. That said, the photo quality is actually pretty solid. I was surprised by how good the shots were.
I had the same question. Can anyone post some example shots?
Pixel phones take amazing pictures, especially with AI features like night mode and astrophotography. But, action cameras like the DJI Action 5 are rugged and have wide-angle lenses, which are great for outdoor or action shots. I wouldn’t throw my Pixel in my backpack when it’s raining, but the DJI Action 5 wouldn’t mind. I’ve got an old GoPro 7, and my Pixel beats it in most scenarios, but the GoPro is perfect for tougher environments. I’d say they’re complementary tools. I’m planning to upgrade to the DJI Action 5 soon.
The raw photos from the DJI Action 4 were really good, so I imagine the Action 5 will be even better.
The DJI Action 5 is great in situations where your phone camera might struggle, like underwater or mounted on gear (helmet, kayak, etc.). If you’re into action sports, it’s definitely worth it. But for spontaneous shots, your phone is probably more convenient. Both have great image quality, but think about how you’ll be using it.
Honestly, I think this model from DJI is a bit of a letdown and could hurt their reputation.

Lol, that’s harsh. Let’s see how it holds up in the long run!
