If your drone didn’t return to home automatically, it likely wasn’t set up properly for a lost signal. When it starts descending, that’s the default behavior. You need to set it to automatically return to home. Pressing the button doesn’t work once the connection is lost.
@Jules
This is the correct technical answer. A big part of being a good pilot is knowing the limits of your drone and setting it up right. Also, check your country’s drone laws, that could help.

I know the drone laws, and I did set everything up correctly. The only issue was the drone malfunctioning. The signal loss and the RTH failure shouldn’t have happened.
@Jules
It was set up properly. I had used it multiple times before, and when I pressed the RTH button, it started to work for a brief moment before it stopped and started descending. I checked the minimum safety height settings too, but it wasn’t working correctly.
@Will
There’s a difference between pressing the RTH button manually and the drone automatically activating it. You should file a flyaway case with DJI, but don’t try to scam them. They’ll check the flight logs and know what settings you had.
@Ira
I did both! That’s the problem. I’ve filed a flyaway case, hoping they can help.
