Emergency landed with my drone (battery died), someone took it... what can I do?

So my drone lost power and landed unexpectedly. It’s connected to my account, so it’s useless to anyone else. I don’t have DJI Care Refresh because I bought it used. There wasn’t any contact info on the license plate. What are my options?

Does DJI track drones or block stolen ones? If not, maybe your best option is to file an insurance claim.

DJI can blacklist flyaways or drones stolen from stores, but you can’t just report a drone as stolen unless there’s proof. They won’t blacklist it just because you claim it’s stolen.

@Darian
Thanks for clearing that up. Should I report it as a flyaway then?

Only if you have Care Refresh. If not, DJI won’t do anything.

If reported as a flyaway, the serial number will be marked, and it won’t be able to fly again.

Maybe just buy a new one? There’s not much else you can do now, even if it’s useless, they still took it.

Next time, get Care Refresh.

Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do. Parts for drones are rarely worthless. Think of it like a stolen car—if you swap out the parts, it’s worth something. The same goes for drones. Expect repair shops to pop up, especially for popular drones.

@Jordan
To make the stolen drone parts business profitable, you’d need to steal a lot of drones.

Exactly. Most people don’t go out to steal phones, but they’ll grab one they find on the ground. Same with drones—they could be picked up by someone who knows a place to sell parts.

I know it’s a bit late now, but you could’ve gotten Care Refresh for your used drone. I did that—had to prove it was in perfect working condition first.

Really? Was it just a prompt when you linked it to your account or did you have to request it?

@Dorian
I had to look into it before I bought it used, but here’s the link if you ever need it for the next drone: https://support.dji.com/help/content?customId=en-us03400007411&spaceId=34&re=US&lang=en

@Dorian
Yes, they’ll let you buy Care Refresh for a used drone as long as you follow their steps to prove it works perfectly.

@Dorian
I missed the window at first but followed the instructions on their site after and got Care Refresh.

Guess you’ll have to buy a new one, but next time check your battery info before flying!

It’s gone, man.

As a new drone owner, I always wondered about this. So once it’s registered, it’s useless for flying again unless someone uses the parts? Good to know.

Don’t run your battery too low, always land it with at least 30% to protect the battery.
