How do I figure out Part 107 and flying near airports?

I’m thinking about getting my Part 107 certification and started using a couple of apps to learn the process. I live near a few airports and want to understand how to get approval for flying in what looks like Class D airspace.

The closest airport to me is McChord, and from what I can tell, the Class D airspace goes all the way to the ground. The app I’m using calls it a “no-fly zone” and doesn’t even let me ask for permission.

Am I reading this right, or am I misunderstanding how the rules work?

You might want to check the actual FAA regulations or sectional charts. Apps can sometimes oversimplify or misinterpret the details.

Does the app actually show details about restricted airspace, or is it just saying “no-fly zone” without much explanation?

You should read Part 107 in the FAA’s rules or even just browse the entire FAR/AIM. It has everything about airspace classifications and rules.

Can you provide a little more info about where exactly you are? I could look up the airspace on a sectional chart to help clarify.

It might be in a Military Operational Area (MOA). Check sectional chart details on SkyVector to confirm.
