I see lots of videos where drones fly off or crash into the water. How do people get their footage back after that? I save all my videos on the memory card inside my DJI Air 3, so if the drone gets lost or sinks, how can I still get the videos? Does the remote controller save anything, or is there another way to recover the footage?
The remote usually keeps some video cache files, and some remotes like the RC2 even have a micro SD card slot you can record to. Also, sometimes people manage to get the drone back, especially if it didn’t sink right away or if the water is shallow and a diver can grab it.

They can sink really fast though. I lost mine in a lake a couple years ago and it dropped like a rock. DJI’s LiDAR has a tough time spotting calm, mirror-like water, so that doesn’t help.
In the remote settings, you can pick how big the video cache is — usually between 2 to 8GB. It’s a rolling cache, so it keeps the last part of your flight. You can also hit record on the screen every time you fly to capture everything from the controller side.
