I was flying my Mavic 3 Classic at a local baseball stadium. I was being really careful with all the netting and other obstacles, going slow and everything. But I still managed to hit a stray wire, and the drone fell about 40 feet onto the concrete stands. I don’t have DJI insurance. The camera still moves, but the screen on the remote is black, so I’m not sure if a wire got disconnected. Should I even bother sending it in, or is it a total loss? How much do you think this will cost?
I’d guess around $80-$120, but if the camera’s also damaged, you might be looking at $200-$400.
My drone’s getting repaired right now, and I’m paying just $80 for these fixes:
- Gimbal Yaw Arm
- Roll Axis Cover Plate
- Rear Left Landing Gear
- Rear Right Landing Gear
- Rear Right Aircraft Arm

I don’t think the camera’s damaged, just a wire connecting it. I’m new to drones, so I don’t know much about how they work. I assume the gimbal and a wire issue are why the camera’s not turning on with the RC?

You’re right about the wires. If the expensive parts survived, your repair cost should stay low.

Yeah, it was just bad luck that it fell onto concrete from 40 feet. I’m worried about the motherboard. Oh well, no more baseball stadiums for me!

Once DJI repairs it, it’ll be good as new. I crashed mine headfirst into rocks once. We all learn from these mistakes. You’ll be back to flying, just with a bit more caution next time.

I was wondering what I could’ve done differently. I’m new, so I was already super careful. I guess more recon of the area might’ve helped. People told me crashes are inevitable, but I didn’t expect it to happen so soon—less than two weeks after buying it!

Yeah, it’s almost impossible to avoid crashing at least once in your life as a drone pilot.
Hi there, sorry to hear about your accident. We recommend sending your drone in for a proper diagnosis. Even without DJI Care Refresh, we can still assess and give you an offer for the repair based on the damage. You can check estimated prices at this link: DJI. Please contact us at Support - DJI to start a case and get more assistance. Thank you.
Hi! Did you get it fixed? The same thing happened to me today, and I’m wondering how much it will cost without DJI Care, since mine expired months ago.

Yes! It was actually pretty cheap and easy. I contacted DJI, sent it in, and they fixed it for $140. From the time I mailed it to when I got it back was about 15 days.
