Is a power module necessary for my drone setup?

My drone setup includes:

  • 4-in-1 ESC
  • Flight controller
  • Telemetry set
  • Radio receiver
  • GPS + compass module
  • Camera

Do I need a power module to connect the battery to the ESC and flight controller?

A power module is typically used with autopilot hardware to provide voltage and current sensing, as well as power to the flight controller. If your flight controller has built-in voltage regulation and current/voltage sensing (or uses external sensors), a separate power module isn’t necessary.

Thanks! My flight controller specs mention:

  • BEC 5V 2A continuous
  • BEC 9V 3A continuous

So, I’m assuming I won’t need a power module, correct?

Correct. With BECs providing adequate power and sensing capabilities, you shouldn’t need a separate power module.

Great, thanks for clarifying!

You’ll need to solder a battery connector, like an XT30 or XT60 (depending on your battery), to the ESC for power. Your flight controller’s instructions should include a wiring diagram showing how everything connects.
