Is geo-fencing by drone companies going too far?

This whole post is cringe-worthy. Have you looked into how strict things are in manned aviation? Drone flying is nothing compared to that.

This isn’t a forum about cars or manned aviation. I’m just trying to discuss drones and get people’s opinions. You’re the only one being negative here.

DJI can’t actually give you permission to fly. When you unlock a restricted area, you’re just telling DJI you already have permission from the relevant authorities.

The term “overreach” usually refers to government action, not a private company. If you think it’s annoying, that’s fair, but it’s not really overreach. You can just choose not to buy from them.

With the constant talk of banning DJI because of politics, I think geo-fencing is a small price to pay. If it helps DJI comply with FAA rules and keeps them in the market, I’m okay with it. Without them, we’d be stuck with inferior alternatives.

Once you make something legal, you’re responsible for it. That’s why DJI uses geo-fencing.
