Is it harder to get DJI drones now?

(Not sure if this post fits here, sorry if it doesn’t.)

I ordered my first drone from the DJI store online, but customs sent it back to the sender. I don’t see it available in local retail stores right now. DJI says they’ll try to resend it in a few days, but I don’t understand why it would work this time. They mentioned the DOD CMC list as the reason.

Does anyone know what’s going on with this? Thanks for any help.

The issue might be because you’re ordering directly. If you buy it from a local store or one in your country, it’s already been imported.

It seems pretty random. I’ve ordered three drones from DJI recently, and all arrived from Hong Kong in just a few days without any issues. Other people seem to have trouble for no clear reason.

Does this mean we can’t ship them back for repairs either?

I checked some local stores, including DJI’s official outlets and other electronics shops. Everything seems to be available.

What stores in the US would you recommend?

Walmart or Costco should have them. Best Buy is another good option. If you or a friend has a Costco membership, that might be your best bet.

@Valentine
Sam’s Club doesn’t sell DJI drones anymore. Costco has the Mini 4 Pro, but it’s delivery only. A lot of stores might be preparing for a possible ban if Trump comes back.

I got mine from Best Buy. Amazon is always an option too.

Sorry, I’m not familiar with US stores.

No problems here. I ordered an Air 3S last Friday, and it arrived yesterday in Atlanta.

Did you order it from the DJI store?

Yes, I ordered it directly. It shipped from Hong Kong.

This isn’t an issue with drones under 250 grams.

I’m talking about a sub-250g drone (DJI Mini 4 Pro).

What’s the difference? Isn’t it still over 250g with the packaging and everything?

Ignore me if I’m misunderstanding, it’s been a long day. :smile:

@Rowe
The 250g limit is for the drone itself, not including packaging. It’s the cutoff for needing FAA registration. I’m not sure if that’s related to customs issues, though. I’m no expert.

Got it! Thanks for explaining.

Buying from official stores in person is easy. Ordering online, at least in India, is a pain.

Taxes on electronics are already super high here, and DJI drones get caught in that too.
