I just ordered the Mini 4K as my first drone and am excited to start flying! It’s similar to the Mini 2SE but has a 4K camera, and I heard spare parts should be available for a while since it’s new. I figured it’s best to start with something affordable before risking crashes with a more expensive model. What do you all think?
The Mini 2 is better than the 2SE. It has a 4K camera, longer flight time, and some obstacle avoidance features, which are really helpful for beginners.

Isn’t the Mini 2 more expensive? Plus, since it’s older, I’m worried parts might become harder to find.
@Amar
It’s a bit more expensive, maybe $100-150 depending on where you’re buying, but totally worth it for the extra features. Obstacle avoidance is a game changer for new flyers. Also, the Mini 2 isn’t that old, and many parts, like the motors, are interchangeable with the SE.
They’re basically the same hardware with different firmware updates. You’ll get similar performance either way.

Not quite—the Mini 2 has better hardware, including a 4K camera compared to the 2.7K on the SE. Some parts are interchangeable, but not all.

Even the Mini 4K you’re talking about is essentially a 2SE with updated firmware. DJI just rebrands them.
You might want to check out a used Mini 3 Pro on eBay. It’s a great deal, and eBay offers buyer protection.
I started with the Mini 2SE, and while it lacks 360-degree obstacle avoidance, it forces you to learn how to read your surroundings and fly more carefully. A good starter drone, in my opinion.
Skip the beginner drones and go for the most advanced DJI model you can afford. Bigger drones are easier to fly, and you get the real experience from day one. Just get DJI Refresh for peace of mind. I’ve flown over 2,000 flights without a crash!
@Dorian
Totally agree with this. Go big or go home!
@Dorian
I only have one advanced drone, and I’ve been perfectly happy with it. No fleet of paperweights here!
