Looking for a drone under $300 with good video and storage options?

I’m buying my first drone and I want to use it for social media content. I was looking at the Dji Neo but I’m worried about its 20GB storage with no option to add more. Should I just go for it, or is there a better option out there? I don’t want to spend more than $300. Any advice would be appreciated.

This is a common question about which drone to buy. Check out the weekly thread in this forum for helpful recommendations and answers to common questions.

You could look at the Mini 2 versions – the 4k or SE models are in the mid $200 range.

What kind of content are you planning to create that needs more than 20GB of video at a time?

I’ll be traveling, and I might have days where I’m shooting outside for long periods. I was hoping to store a lot of footage and later pick out 4k snippets.

Ah, got it. Just remember you can easily download the videos to your laptop every day (or however often you need).

Also, keep in mind that no drone under $300 will let you shoot for long periods without recharging. You can swap batteries, but unless you’re carrying a ton of extras, you’ll still need to pause and recharge. That’s another chance to download the footage.

The Neo doesn’t give ‘great video’ compared to the DJI Mini series, especially if you’re looking to stay under 250g. If you need more flight time, go for a used DJI Mini Fly More kit if you can afford it.

If you want a camera drone, go with the DJI Mini 4K. If you’re interested in FPV eventually, then the Neo might be a better fit.

Both the NEO and Mini are solid options. The NEO isn’t as bad as some people say in terms of video – it’s good enough for most prosumers. If you really want the best, ditch the phone controller, but that might push you over the $300 mark. Any version of the Mini will make you happy, though. I have a Mini 3 and it’s still a very good, affordable drone.
