Looking for advice: Best BNF indoor FPV drone for my old FrSky setup?

It’s been a while since I flew an FPV drone—about four years. I stepped away because the new EU rules made things tricky, but I’m ready to get back into it, starting small. I’d also like to get my girlfriend involved, so I’m aiming for something beginner-friendly like an Emax Tinyhawk or similar for indoor flying.

Here’s my setup from before:

  • FrSky X-Lite controller
  • FrSky R9M Lite Pro module
  • FatShark goggles
  • Used to fly an original Emax Tinyhawk and a 5-inch FPV drone

Now I’m looking for advice:

  • Is there a BNF (Bind-and-Fly) version of the Emax Tinyhawk (or similar) that works with my current gear?
  • Would I need to add an FrSky XM+ receiver to make it compatible?

I’m open to suggestions for beginner-friendly drones that are easy to set up and work well indoors. Any help is appreciated!

I was in a similar spot with my old Taranis. Honestly, I’d suggest ditching FrSky and grabbing an ELRS module for your X-Lite. Most new BNF drones come with ELRS or Crossfire options now.

I’d recommend an ELRS module and a Hummingbird V3 from NewBeeDrone. It’s an excellent choice!

@Sawyer
Thank you so much! So, I guess my D8 module is outdated… Could you link to a module that would work for me?

Edit:

I found the “Radiomaster Ranger Nano 2.4GHz ELRS Module LBT” after some searching. Would that be a good choice?

@Amari
It’s a decent option, but for better value, I’d recommend the Radiomaster Pocket ELRS transmitter. It’s a full new transmitter with an internal ELRS module, only about $65, and runs the latest EdgeTX firmware.

@Amari
You could just flash ELRS firmware onto your R9 setup—no need to buy new gear.

There are still FrSky-compatible indoor quads around, but ELRS is definitely the way to go for outdoor flying now.

Here’s one: HappyModel Mobula 6 (FrSky version).

The Mobula 6 V2.0 is solid for indoors. I’ve got a FlySky version, and it works great.

I still love my X-Lite Pro—it’s reliable and does everything I need. FrSky hardware is solid, even if people like to complain about them.

I recommend iRC Ghost electronics for TX/RX. They’re super easy to use and offer great performance with minimal latency and noise. Check out Joshua Bardwell’s YouTube channel too—he’s very thorough, though he’s a big fan of RadioMaster.

The X-Lite is great, but I always struggled with the EdgeTX navigation on it. The RadioMaster button layout is so much easier to use.
