Need to do real estate photography in restricted airspace... help?

@Quinlan
Actually, the rules around tethered drones have changed recently. You can read about it here:

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Loosens Regulations on Tethered Drones - Drone Videos & Photos.

@Crosby
That only applies to public agencies, though.

@Crosby
Definitely check the actual regulations before assuming that applies to you.

Honestly, that thought crossed my mind. Does a tethered drone still count as a drone?

Tethered drones can now bypass many regulations, including some airspace restrictions.

Where did you apply for the waiver? This doesn’t look like an area where LAANC isn’t available.

You’re close to a restricted area, but just outside of it. Do you actually need to be inside the restricted area for the job? That area has its own waiver process and special contacts. Here’s the document with the details: https://flyvps.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Eglin-AFB-Local-Area-sUAS-Guidelines-Jul-17.pdf

Plan B: just rent a boom lift.

Maybe use a long selfie stick or a 360 cam, or even a camera boom. Just in case the drone plan doesn’t work out.

I would NOT recommend that.

This is correct. The FAA’s operations center usually reaches out before final approval, and the waivers often go straight to the ATC manager’s email.

Just don’t go too far above the trees. Honestly, no one’s going to notice.

Are you certified under Part 107?

Yep, I am.

Why not hire someone on base to do it? Problem solved. :smile:
