Photograph of an atom using a DSLR camera

At first, I believed that there could not be a single atom, but I was partially mistaken.

It is not what we see, yet there is one strontium atom in the center. This image depicts a long exposure shot of powerful lasers reflected off of just one atom that the camera was able to capture.

Thus, it is an image of the glare or reflection of an atom. Imagine it as sunlight that is reflected off a ball of metal and onto a wall. The farther away the wall is, the bigger but dimmer the reflection is. Since this is a long exposure image, the reflection is much larger than the atom itself.
