Pro-tip… don't grab your drone while it's flying

The Air 2S: Slasher Edition now with realistic blades!

Why would you grab it near the propellers?

Probably missed the body and grabbed the props by accident. Some people grab the drone from underneath and turn it 180 degrees to make it shut down. Dangerous move, though.

@Neve
I’ve never understood why people do that. I’ve seen folks launch by holding it, and even that makes me nervous.

It’s really useful on a boat since both the drone and boat are moving. It’s hard to land when everything’s shifting around.

@Thames
Exactly.

I do it all the time. Finding a good spot to land where the blades won’t get wrecked by rocks or grass is tough, especially when launching from a kayak.

Yeah, on a boat or a sandy area, maybe you have no other option. But it still feels risky, especially after hearing horror stories of what these props can do.

I always land mine in my flat hand.

@Neve
I fly my DJI Mini in areas where there’s no safe landing spot like a beach or boat. I usually grab it from the bottom to avoid the sand. Any better way to do this?

Using a flat palm works best for landing. Hover the drone at eye level, place your hand underneath, and let the autoland do the rest. It gets trickier over water or in high winds, though.

@Daryn
I’ve never tried the palm method, but it sounds better than grabbing it. I always get nervous when the drone drifts in the wind, so I’ll give it a shot next time.

Yeah, just be ready to adjust. The wind can make the drone drift even when it’s landing on your hand. It’s always a bit risky, but I’d rather deal with that than get my hand near those blades.

@Daryn
True, but it still feels safer than landing on sand. I might just keep using the grab method until I get the hang of the palm landing.

You could 3D print a landing handle for the bottom of the drone. It would help in places like boats.

@Nicol
That sounds like a good idea, might try that since I’ve got a printer.

Or use a foldable hand table with a velcro landing spot. Kind of like those velcro tennis ball games.

@Neve
So they shut off if you flip them?

Yep, flip it upside down and it turns off. Works on most DJIs.
