I got into drones last year after buying the DJI Mini Pro 4. Now I’m thinking about getting the Avata 2 or the Airs 3s, but I’m seeing all this talk about the ban. Should I buy these drones now or wait to see what happens with the ban? I’d love to hear some advice from those of you who know more about this. Thanks!
This seems like a common question about which drone to buy. I recommend checking out the weekly thread on this forum for helpful recommendations and answers. If you think this post is out of place, don’t worry! It hasn’t been removed and is still visible in the forum feed.
If you’re looking at FPV drones like the Avata, you might want to consider non-DJI options. Non-DJI FPV drones usually offer more power, better maneuverability, easier repairs, and more flexibility.

What FPV brands would you recommend? Are they just as easy to fly as the DJI models?
@Emerson
FPV drones are generally harder to fly because there are no assist features, which makes them more fun once you get the hang of it. It’s not too hard though—just spend a few hours in a simulator and you’ll be good to go. There’s no single best brand; each one has its strengths and weaknesses. For example, BetaFPV makes great tiny whoops and ELRS modules but their controllers aren’t the best. Radiomaster specializes in radio controllers, and they’re really good. iFlight is more of a general brand, and Skyzone makes solid analog goggles.
Here’s a recommended setup for beginners:
- Drone: BetaFPV Air65 or Meteor65 (for indoor flying) or Meteor75 (for outdoors)
- Radio: Anything from Radiomaster or Jumper with ELRS (Radiomaster Pocket is the cheapest option)
- Goggles: Eachine EV800D or Skyzone Cobra X
- Batteries: BetaFPV Lava or Tattu with BT2.0 connectors (300mAh for 65mm, 450-550mAh for 75mm)
- Charger: Vifly Whoopstor 3
- Sim: Velocidrone or Tryp for practice
This setup should cost under $350 USD. If you can afford it, you could upgrade to a Meteor75 with Walksnail and get digital goggles for a clearer video feed, though it’s more expensive.
