Should I replace my crashed drone or go cheap … What do you think?

I recently crashed my DJI Magic 1st gen into a tree and the gimbal broke off. It costs around $400 to fix. I was thinking about just getting a cheap $50 drone instead.
I do wedding videos and usually start with an aerial shot of the venue, so I only need a couple minutes of 4K footage. I feel like I don’t need anything more than a decent 4K camera with a good gimbal. Is it safe for me to get a cheap knockoff drone from Amazon or TikTok store?

Nothing that cheap is worth even considering for commercial use.

Do you want to lose your clients? That’s how you lose your clients.

You’re doing wedding videos but can’t afford to fix your budget drone? Maybe you need to charge more.

If you showed up to my wedding with a $50 drone, you’d be taking a $25 cab ride back to wherever you came from.

You spent your time and money to get your 107 license (I hope, since you’re doing this for work). You should also spend a bit to get a proper drone.

As a professional, you should know that 4K doesn’t mean high quality. You can get 720p footage that looks much better than many ‘4K’ options.

You might get 4K pixels that give you a really bad picture. The DJI Neo isn’t bad, but it’s not great either. Some 1080p footage from other DJI drones looks way better.

Anything cheap that claims to do 4K won’t be good.

Try it, it will be a nice lesson for 50 bucks. I wouldn’t even look into the Neo.

Check out the Mini lineup from DJI.

If I remember right, the new Mini drones (4K 3 and 4) have better sensors than the Mavic 1, so you will be upgrading.

Just buy a used DJI.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m seeing a lot of strong ads for DJI knockoffs and I was just curious.
