I just picked up the DJI Air 3 and it came with the RC-N3. Now I’m wondering if I should get the RC 2 instead. Is there anything the RC 2 can do that my iPhone + RC-N3 setup can’t?
I’ve got the RC with my Mini 3. At first, I wasn’t sure about going with a built-in screen since I used to use my phone too.
Honestly, I’m so glad I went with the screen version. It costs more, yeah, but I’d never go back. No messing with cables or holding brackets, and I don’t have to worry about phone calls or notifications popping up mid-flight. Setup is way faster, and I fly a lot more now because of that.

I agree the built-in screen is super handy. But if calls or messages are the issue, just turn on airplane mode. Works fine that way too.
The RC and RC 2 are really about ease of use. RC 2 might have a bit better range, but let’s be real—most people aren’t flying 15km away. RC 2 does have two customizable buttons on the back compared to just one on the RC-N3. Screen quality is about the same as using your phone (1080p).
So yeah… unless you find a great deal or really want it for convenience, it’s not a must-have.
I don’t have those exact models, but I use the RC-N1 and RC Pro. I honestly can’t stand using the RC-N1 anymore. The joystick movement feels weird—it kind of locks or sticks when it hits the main directions like 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock. RC Pro feels way smoother.
One thing to keep in mind—iPhones don’t handle direct sunlight well. The screen dims a lot and it’s hard to see anything when you’re flying.
