If you keep waiting for the next model, you’ll never get started!
I just got the Avata 2, and I love it. It’s in my fleet along with a Neo, a 2S, and a 3. I bought the 3 last November when the customs mess started, and I don’t regret getting last year’s model at all.
If the Avata 3 does come out next year, DJI drones might be banned by then anyway. They’re already getting harder to find in the U.S.
Don’t even bother ordering from DJI direct if you’re in the States—it’ll likely get stuck in customs. If you go for the Avata 2, look for a store that has it in stock, not on backorder. I’ve seen a bunch on eBay, but they’re shipping from Hong Kong or Korea, so you’ll probably run into customs issues there too.
That said, I have the Avata 2, and it’s a blast to fly. Good luck with whatever you decide!
If you’re just starting with FPV, the Neo might be a better choice. It’s lighter, so it won’t break as easily when you crash (which you will), and it’s cheaper to repair or replace.
