Got my FAA remote pilot certificate last week and now I’m looking to get a drone. Not 100% sure what I’ll be using it for yet, but I’m thinking either photography, video, or maybe inspections. I was checking out the Mini 4 Pro RC 2, but nearly $1000 is a bit out of reach for me right now. I really want the version with the screen controller. Are there any good alternatives that have similar performance but cost less? Appreciate any advice!
Maybe look at the Mini 3 with the screen controller? It doesn’t have all the fancy features of the Mini 4 Pro, but it’s still a great drone for a lot less money.
I’ve got the Mini 4 Pro with the RC2 controller, and it’s been amazing. I haven’t tried other DJI drones, but this one is pretty powerful.
I know the Flip has the same camera and sensor, but from what I’ve seen, it’s just not on the same level as the Mini 4 Pro.
Flip!!
Congrats on getting your certificate! It might help to think about what you really want to use the drone for before picking one. Also, check out DJI’s site for refurbished models—sometimes you can get a good deal. The Mini 3 Pro could be a solid option that’s more in your price range.
Honestly, I’d save up a little more and get something better. The whole buy once, cry once thing. Way better to wait and get a good one instead of spending what you have now on something that’s just okay.
People do this a lot with cars too. They rush into buying something cheap because they don’t want to wait, then regret it when it turns out to be a bad choice. I’d say hold off, save a bit more, and get something that will last—maybe an Air 3 or Air 3S.
@Arin
Yeah, I agree. I have the Mini 3 and the Air 3S, and the Air 3S is way more stable, plus the camera is noticeably better.

If I could only have one drone, it would definitely be the Air 3S. I have both the Mini 4 Pro and the Air 3S, and they’re both great, but the Air 3S just does more.
Get the M4T. Solid choice.
Go for a Mini 4K with the Fly More package or a Mini 4 Pro with Fly More. More batteries and accessories make a big difference.
Check out the Phantom 4 Pro Plus V2.0. If you’re interested, DM me. I’ve got a full setup with a Pelican case. I’ll post some pics if you want to see.

Hey, don’t waste your money on this. The Phantom 4 is old and missing a lot of useful features. Not a good first drone. Feels like this guy is just trying to sell you his old gear.
