A drone prison at Tromsø Airport

Americans have a reputation for ignoring no-fly zones and maps.

We have apps for that in the US. We have apps for everything! :joy:

True.

@Noor
Some people just don’t care.

Don’t people check flight restrictions before flying? It’s pretty simple: https://guidetolofoten.com/drone-flying-in-tromso/

People probably know, but the scenery is too tempting, so they risk it.

I’d bet at least half the videos posted online are of illegal flights. People don’t care even if they do check.

I could use one of those drones for parts.

That drone looks like it got shot out of the sky!

Maybe a bird of prey took it down. They use them at airports to scare off smaller birds. Shooting drones can be risky; a bullet could land somewhere unexpected.

@Val
Aren’t we risking harm to those birds of prey by sending them into drone propellers?

Birds have strong armor. They can handle it.

How did they even manage to take off in a no-fly zone? I flew near an international airport today, but I had to unlock the zone with DJI Fly and show proof of permission. Plus, I had to talk to the control tower.

No one’s training birds to take down drones. Birds have hollow bones; a hit from a drone could seriously injure them.

@Lennon
Actually, drone-hunting birds are real. Here’s a link: Drone-Hunting Eagles

@Addison
That article is old. They stopped using birds because it didn’t work out.

Birds aren’t real anyway.

We shouldn’t leave them out like that. Drones have rights too! :joy:

Surprised there are no FPV drones in there. Guess FPV pilots are smarter!

FPV is a smaller community though.

I doubt people are traveling to Norway to race FPV drones. These guys were probably just trying to capture the scenery.

@Quirin
Actually, they were caught trying to film planes taking off and landing.
