I’m getting my first action cam soon. I was thinking about GoPro (13, 12, 11, 10), DJI Osmo Action 4, or Insta360 Ace Pro. I’m almost decided on Action 4. I’m waiting for an official Action 5 announcement and a possible discount on Action 4. But I can’t find any info about the announcement or release date. Action 4 is currently on sale by 10% (standard) or 7% (adventure). Should I buy it now or wait? I’m going on vacation at the end of September.
You can get it for £259 on Amazon right now. It’s way better than GoPro. The Insta360 Ace Pro doesn’t have a replaceable lens, which is useless for action cameras.
@AirframeAce2 I can get the adventure combo for $519 in Canada. There will be tax, of course. It seems cheaper in the UK.
@Gordon4 I got the cheapest option because it’s going on my helmet.
GoPros are good in bright light, but there hasn’t been much innovation in 2 years. The 11 has the same image quality, resolutions, and FPS as the Hero 13. It gets noisy in low light. The Action 4 is a good all-rounder. It’s better in low light and doesn’t overheat as quickly. The Action 5 is rumored to have a new image sensor. We don’t know what effect it will have on image quality. If you’re almost decided on Action 4, I would go for it or wait for Action 5.
@Wyatt Thanks. The main reason I dropped GoPro is overheating and low light filming. I’ll probably go with Action 4. I’m just trying to save more money.
It’s your money, do what you want. They all do the same thing. GoPro sucks. I owned 3-4 and they were all crap. Insta is also bad. DJI hasn’t given me any problems.
@Dexter Good to hear. I want to see Action 5 specs and pricing before I decide. Hopefully, the announcement comes this week.
@Gordon4 It’s just going to have a better battery and more frames. For the price, the 3 and 4 offer the best quality and stability right now.
