I was flying my Mini 2 SE today, and everything was going fine until the right stick on the controller stopped responding completely. The drone started flying backward on its own, and I couldn’t get it to stop. The only control that worked was going up and down with the left stick. I panicked and almost crashed into a building while trying to gain altitude for safety.
The problem only went away when I completely closed the app and reopened it. I haven’t updated the DJI Fly app to version 1.15.4 yet because the update keeps failing, but that version isn’t supposed to affect the Mini 2 SE anyway.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any idea what could cause this? I’d love to hear from other DJI users.
I’ve got a Mini 2 SE. During the flight, the right stick just stopped working. The drone started going backward on its own, and I couldn’t stop it. Only the up-and-down control worked on the left stick. I tried to gain altitude to stay safe but nearly crashed into a building.
The problem went away when I fully closed and restarted the app. It wasn’t a great moment, and I was panicking a bit. I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone else who’s had something like this happen and what might have caused it.
For context, I was using an older version of the DJI Fly app because the update to v1.15.4 keeps failing. But this new version doesn’t seem to add anything for the Mini 2 SE, so I don’t think that’s the issue.
@Hayden
The controller seems fine. The issue was either with the app, the drone, or its software. Once I closed the app and restarted it, everything worked normally again.

Thanks for updating. It might help to reinstall the app to rule out any issues with it. Just back up your app data before doing so. Let us know if the problem happens again.
Gain altitude, as you did, to give yourself more time and space to react.
Figure out which controls are still working—like forward/backward, side-to-side, or yaw (rotating the drone).
Use whatever control you still have to steer the drone away from any dangers, like buildings.
If the issue can’t be fixed mid-flight, plan for an emergency landing somewhere safe, ideally where there’s no one around and nothing important you could crash into. Saving the drone is good, but avoiding damage or injury is more important.
