Am I wasting money?

Just got this stuff and now I’m having second thoughts. Will the landing gear cause too much drag? Also, the blades are smaller than the official ones.

  1. Prop guards are a waste of money. You risk damaging the drone trying to attach them.

  2. Landing gear isn’t necessary unless you’re always taking off and landing in grass. A smooth surface should be fine.

  3. Stick to genuine DJI props. Aftermarket props might cause the drone to fly weird or even crash.

  4. The stow-away strap is a good option, but some drones come with that strap already.

I’d send it back. Get a landing pad instead of landing gear, and definitely go for official props.

Thanks everyone! I started to think it might not be such a great idea after I bought it. Didn’t consider the extra weight either. I’ll send it back to Amazon. :joy:

Out of those, the only one I’d recommend is the storage strap. Both my Mini 3 and Air 3 didn’t come with one, and trying to put them back in the bag caused the props to go everywhere.

For the others: prop guards aren’t needed. The drone has proximity sensors to avoid crashes, and those guards might actually mess with the system, making crashes more likely.

For the landing gear, just learn to hand launch/catch or use a landing pad. Neither adds extra weight to the drone.

In general, avoid anything that gets attached to the drone itself (besides stickers and lens filters), as it’ll negatively affect how it flies. For the Mini series, it could also push you over the 250g weight limit.

Buy just the drone first. Use it for a week or two, and you’ll figure out what you really need.

On top of the other reasons, landing gear is almost never needed. You can hand launch and land it. I do it all the time.

Adding anything extra to the Mini 3 Pro (apart from ND filters) pushes it over the 250g limit in Europe. So, depending on where you are, the extra safety comes with extra regulations.

The full prop guard weighs too much. I bought one for about €1 on AliExpress and only used it once. DJI Fly kept giving me weight warnings. This is for the Mini 3, but I imagine the Mini 3 Pro uses the same engines.
