Any good 3rd-party Android apps? Also, DJI Fly is making me lose my mind

First off—are there any solid Android apps I can use with my DJI Neo? Ideally something that works like DJI Fly?

Second, has anyone figured out how to get DJI Fly running on a Pixel 9 Pro? It installs, lets me log in and accept terms, but as soon as I set permissions, it crashes to the home screen. After that, it won’t even launch—just shows a white screen with the DJI logo for two seconds before closing. I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling, setting permissions beforehand, no luck.

Bonus question: any options for flying with a Quest 3?

Thanks in advance!

Decided to keep my rant separate since it’s not exactly on-topic, but maybe someone will get a kick out of it. Otherwise, feel free to skip!

[Cue rant]

So the DJI Neo is marketed as not needing a controller or phone, right? But turns out, you can’t even activate it without the DJI Fly app. Fine, whatever—I go to the Play Store… and it’s not there. Turns out, DJI Fly isn’t on the Play Store because it doesn’t meet Google’s quality standards (likely due to compatibility issues).

Problem: My Pixel 9 Pro has a work profile with security policies that block apps from outside the Play Store. Had to go through my company’s approval process, which took a couple of days, but I finally got it installed.

And then… it didn’t work.

Tried using my old Pixel 8 Pro instead. Factory reset it, installed DJI Fly, and it actually ran. But when I connected the drone and tried to activate it, I got a ‘check network connection’ error. Turns out, since the app connects to the drone via WiFi, it cuts off my home internet. But activation requires an internet connection. DJI support confirmed that I somehow need both a direct WiFi connection to the drone and internet access at the same time. My old phone doesn’t have active cellular, so no dice.

Solution? I had to turn on USB tethering on my Pixel 9 Pro, plug it into the Pixel 8 Pro, and give it an internet connection that way. So, for those keeping score—the ‘standalone’ drone required two phones and a cable just to get in the air.

Anyway, it’s activated now, and I can fly it using my old phone. But I’d really prefer to use my Pixel 9 Pro, so any suggestions on fixing DJI Fly or good 3rd-party apps would be much appreciated.

@Maxwell
Right now, anything using DJI Fly doesn’t have an open SDK. Older drones that use Go/Go4 (like the Phantom and Mini 2S) have 3rd-party options, but models running DJI Fly (like the Neo) don’t. Unless DJI releases an SDK, 3rd-party apps aren’t likely.

Also, I personally wouldn’t mix work and personal on one phone…

@Eden
So basically, no alternative apps for the Neo? Dang. Thanks for the info.
