Any good drone brands besides DJI?

I’m getting the Mavic Mini 3 and already have the Mavic (2018) version. I was thinking about getting the Skydio 2 too.

Are there any other brands that are good for everyday use or heavy use?

Also, do other brands have flight restrictions like DJI? My Mavic Air won’t let me fly in some areas, and it’s really frustrating. Do all brands have this problem?

DJI controls 75% of the market, which says a lot.

So you’re just saying ‘follow the crowd’?

People vote with their wallets, dude.

It’s ‘herd,’ not ‘heard.’

Yuneec is solid. They’ve been around forever, and their drones fly super smooth. They’re more on the professional side but worth checking out.

The Autel Evo line is pretty good.

Honestly, no other brand really sticks around. Parrot, GoPro, 3D Robotics, Holystone, Hubsan—they come and go. If you don’t want the flight restrictions, you’d have to build your own drone.

I’ve got about $5k. Do you know any places that make good custom drones? I’ve seen some nice DIY kits and multicopters.

I’ve researched DIY drone kits, and you usually get more for your money with DJI. Anything comparable in DIY is going to cost more and have fewer features.

I love my DJI but hate the ‘YOU’RE IN A NO FLY ZONE, CANNOT TAKE OFF!’ notifications. Wish there was a way to bypass that!

Check out Drone-hacks.com. They have tools to remove those no-fly zone limits.

They have these restrictions for a reason, especially near airports. I live near a restricted zone, but I can still fly after getting automated authorization.

Yeah, but I keep getting restricted even when I’m nowhere near an airport. It’s annoying.

Restrictions don’t always line up with the actual zones, which is frustrating.

You’re spot on. I think I’ll save up and have someone build me a custom model. Any recommendations? Hobby shops maybe?

I started building my own because if one part breaks, it’s easier to fix than waiting for DJI service. But keep in mind, when you build your own, every added feature like GPS or a gimbal means more complexity and work. I still use a used Mini 2 for tight spaces because it’s just easier.

Best bet is to build one yourself. There are sites that sell all the parts you need, but I can’t remember the name right now.

“Drone better.”
