I know flying in New York is tricky with all the restrictions in place. Has anyone here managed to apply for and get a permit to fly a drone in the city? If you did, how was your experience operating after getting approval?
I hate to say it, but things might get tougher. The government is already looking into more drone regulations, and I think cities like NYC will get stricter. Plus, insurance costs are likely to go up too. Just my take on how this might go.

I agree as long as the rules are clear and consistent, I don’t mind. What bothers me is how often people fly illegally in New York without consequences. Regulation hasn’t stopped that yet.

This is exactly what frustrates me. As someone trying to market myself as a drone pilot, I often see others on set breaking every rule—flying over people, going beyond line of sight, and so on. If I follow the rules, I feel like I’d be the odd one out saying, ‘Sorry, the FAA doesn’t allow that.’
@Shiloh
I totally get where you’re coming from! But just because others ignore the rules doesn’t mean you have to. It reminds me of construction work—some jobs go faster when safety rules are skipped, and maybe no one gets hurt. But the one time something goes wrong, it can be catastrophic. It’s not worth it.
