I want to take my DJI Mini 4 Pro drone to Europe. I bought it in the Netherlands. My plan is to pack the drone (without batteries) in my checked-in luggage, and carry the batteries and controller in my cabin bag. However, I’m a bit concerned since some airports scan checked-in baggage before tagging. Has anyone had experience carrying a drone out of India?
I did something similar on a flight within Europe (Germany to Ireland). No issues at all, and I didn’t even have to show the security team anything. I kept the batteries, power bank, and controller in fire-safe bags for LiPo batteries in my cabin baggage.
You shouldn’t have any problems. I’ve carried my drone, batteries, and controller the same way. When my bag went through the scanner, they just asked me what the items were but didn’t open the bag.
I haven’t tried taking one out of India, but I know it can be tricky to bring drones into India and use them there. Unless you’re flying Emirates—which, as far as I know, requires drones to be checked in—there’s no need to put the drone in checked luggage. The risk of theft or damage is too high.
