Anyone else having range issues on the Mini 3 with N1 controller?

Hey folks, so I recently picked up a DJI Mini 3 off Amazon. I wasn’t expecting crazy long range, but honestly thought I’d get a bit more than I am. I’m in FCC mode and flying in a suburban area, and I figured I’d get around 1000 meters or so before the signal starts dropping. But I’m only hitting like 600 meters at about 400 feet up.

Just wondering — is that normal? Do I need to change some setting I’ve missed? For context, there are a lot of trees around here and houses too, so maybe that’s messing with things.

In suburbs there’s usually a lot of competing Wi-Fi signals — that can mess with your range big time.

Yeah I tried another flight around the neighborhood and switched off dual band to only 2.4GHz — and boom, huge difference. Way smoother. I think you’re right.

Nice! Trees are also a big issue if they’re in the way of the signal path, but sounds like you were high enough. DJI’s range numbers are usually based on perfect line of sight in a signal-free spot — like on top of a mountain or something.

Yup, anything between you and the drone — trees, walls, whatever — will kill your range. Happens even on newer drones.

Totally agree. Trees with heavy leaves just suck up radio signals. I flew over a forest along a stream once and had only 100 feet of trees between me and the drone — signal dropped to yellow at just 1300 feet. Buildings are even worse.
