I’ve been reading up on LiPo batteries, and wow, there’s a lot to keep in mind. Stuff like not leaving them fully charged or dead for too long, and using those fireproof bags… IDK, just feels like a lot! Anyone here got experience with these? Any tips or personal rules you follow?
Yeah, never leave them charging unattended. My friend had one go puffy and nearly catch fire. Safety first, lol.

Oh dang, that sounds scary! What do you do if it starts puffing?
@Joss
You gotta dispose of it safely right away. Follow local disposal rules; don’t just toss it in the trash!
I always use a balance charger. It keeps the cells stable so they don’t get dangerous. Do you have one?

Not yet! What’s a good one to get? I saw some under $50.

Yeah, lots of good options under $50. Just make sure it’s compatible with your batteries!
FYI, don’t let them get too hot or too cold. Extreme temps can ruin them.

What counts as ‘too cold’? I live somewhere pretty chilly in the winter.

Below 14F is bad. The battery might fail suddenly. Keep them at room temp if you can.
Do you use fireproof bags? I started after hearing about fires. Cheap and worth it, IMO.

Yeah, I’ve seen those online. Do they really make a big difference?

100%! They contain fires if something goes wrong. Always use one when charging or storing.
Pro tip: don’t pack LiPos in checked luggage when flying. Always carry-on, and use fireproof pouches.

Wait, why can’t they go in checked bags?

It’s the law! Checked bags don’t handle battery fires well. Safer in carry-on with you.
