Anyone tried the DJI Osmo Action 4? How’s it compare to GoPro?

Just got my hands on the DJI Osmo Action 4, and I gotta say, it’s a pretty solid camera for the price. The footage quality is awesome, but I’m not sure if it beats GoPro when it comes to stabilization. Anyone else using it?

I’ve been eyeing the Action 4 too. How’s the stabilization? I heard it’s not as good as the GoPro.

Stabilization is decent, but it’s not perfect. There are five modes, including HorizonSteady, but it crops into the frame a bit, so you lose some of that super wide angle. Not a deal-breaker, but noticeable if you’ve used GoPro before.

@Devi
Got it. So you’re saying it’s kinda a trade-off between a wider view and better stability?

@Devi
Exactly. If you bump up the stabilization, the footage gets tighter, which can feel cramped. But it’s still pretty smooth overall, especially on RockSteady mode.

Does it really last 150 minutes in super cold temps? That’s wild if true.

Yep, DJI says it can record up to 150 minutes at -20°C. I haven’t tested it in extreme cold yet, but it’s held up well on cooler days.

@Devi
That’s awesome. My GoPro always dies on me when it’s freezing out.

How’s the app? I always find these camera apps super clunky.

The DJI app is actually really good. You can fully control the camera, edit videos, and even use Bluetooth tethering. It’s been pretty smooth for me.

@Devi
Nice, sounds better than the GoPro app. I always have issues with that thing.

Magnetic mounts sound handy… but are they strong enough? Like, do they hold up when riding rough trails?

Totally. The magnets are strong and the clips are super easy to use. I haven’t had any issues, even on bumpy rides. It’s great for quick adjustments.

@Devi
Good to hear. Nothing worse than stopping mid-ride to readjust a mount.

How’s the picture quality? Does it stack up to GoPro or Insta360?

Picture quality is great, especially in 10-bit color mode. Colors are rich without being overly saturated. It’s really close to GoPro in terms of image quality, and the low-light performance is impressive too.

@Devi
That’s good to know. I’m always filming in mixed lighting so having decent low-light performance is a big plus.

Price-wise, how does it compare to GoPro and Insta360? Worth the savings?

Definitely more affordable. The Osmo Action 4 is £289, compared to £400 for the GoPro Hero12. Plus, GoPro’s horizon leveling requires a £100 add-on. Insta360 is around £360, so the DJI is a pretty good deal.

@Devi
Nice, I’m not trying to break the bank on a camera, so that’s a big point in its favor.
