Are Holy Stone drones any good or just a waste of money?

DJI drones seem a bit pricey and I’m just looking for something fun that can take decent photos and videos. Holy Stone drones claim to have 4K UHD and have pretty good reviews on Amazon. Has anyone here used one? Are they actually worth it?

DJI really dominates when it comes to flight control, link stability, and image quality. Hard to beat them.

Try getting a refurbished HS175D Holy Stone for under $100 on eBay. It’s a great starter drone to learn with before getting serious. Fly it until you don’t crash anymore.

Does that mean DJI is the only real option? Feels like it’s impossible to break into the drone market without spending a lot.

I got a Holy Stone a few years back and it was awful. The “4K camera” was really bad, and the drone couldn’t hover straight. Every picture came out tilted because it was constantly trying to correct itself.

Aw man  Thanks for the heads up.

They have different versions. I have the HS720E, which has some stabilization but no gimbal. It flies fine, but image quality isn’t great. In windy conditions, the video gets really jerky. Plus, the battery takes ages to charge—8-10 hours for about 20 minutes of flight. Here are a couple of videos I took if you want to see what it’s like:

As you can see, it struggles to keep things centered when following me around.

Thanks for sharing the videos, that’s not what I’m looking for. I think I’ll just save up for a DJI.

Just save up for a DJI. They’re stable and the cameras are really good.

I had the same thought and got a $350 Holy Stone. It crashed twice for no reason, once during an orbit maneuver and another time just flying straight down. Customer service was great—they replaced it both times—but the drone itself was super unreliable. I’d get really nervous flying it, and the range was pretty bad. Now I’m saving for a DJI.

Ha, same here! Mine crashed into my garage and then my motorcycle. It was totally unpredictable. I’ve only used DJI drones since and haven’t looked back.

You get what you pay for.

In this case, probably a lot less than what you paid for, lol.

I had the Mini 2 from DJI—never crashed, never lost GPS, and never had to replace a propeller. You really get what you pay for with DJI.

Same here, 111 flights and zero issues. Controls and camera settings are easy to adjust, and the camera is solid for stills.

DJI is just ahead of the game in consumer drones. You pay more, but the quality and reliability make it worth it.

I grabbed a cheap $40 Holy Stone to learn the basics and get my crashes out of the way. Can’t complain at that price but knew it was only for training.

Look into a used DJI. You can find some great deals depending on the model.

Certified refurbs on eBay are about 40% cheaper and come with a warranty. Probably the way I’ll go for my next purchase.

Try getting a used Mini 2.
