Avata 2… should I repair it or use my insurance?

Hey folks,

My Avata 2 had a bad crash on pavement and now the camera only shows black. It still takes off and lands, but it won’t respond to any flight controls.

I contacted DJI and they set me up for a repair—I just need to ship it in and pay for whatever it needs.

Thing is, I also bought insurance from Adorama when I got the drone. It’s one of those third-party plans that gives you one free replacement if there’s accidental damage. I paid $149 for it, and it’s still good for another 10 months.

So now I’m torn… do I just pay out of pocket to have DJI fix it, hoping it’s a minor thing? That way I save the insurance for something worse later. Or should I just use the replacement now since I already paid for it and hope I don’t wreck it again?

I know there’s no perfect answer, and I get no one can tell me the exact cost without seeing the drone. But I’d love to hear what others would do in my shoes.

I’d say always go with DJI Refresh when you can. It’s quick and hassle-free.

Yeah looking back, I wish I had picked Refresh instead of the Adorama insurance. But right now I don’t have Refresh, so it’s between paying DJI to repair it or using the third-party replacement.

@Pierce
Gotcha. Even without Refresh, DJI’s still really easy to work with. A lot of people say the final cost often ends up being similar to what Refresh would’ve been. Try chatting with a rep on their site—tell them your situation, and even ask if they can knock a little off the price. Worth a shot!
