Both my Mavic 2 Pros crashed within a day… what’s going on?

So yeah… I had two DJI Mavic 2 Pro drones crash on me within 24 hours. Same mission mode, same area. I still don’t fully understand what happened but here’s a breakdown:

Crash 1

  • :date: 23rd June 2025, around 3:30pm (UTC+1)
  • :round_pushpin: Doing a Grid 2D survey mission at 170m altitude
  • :satellite: Signal cut out about 300 meters away
  • :compass: Drone ended up crashing outside the mission zone. App showed an error (see Screen1).

Crash 2

  • :date: 24th June 2025, around 12:30pm
  • :artificial_satellite: Same setup: 170m, Grid 2D, about 1.7km out (which has worked fine before)
  • :satellite: Signal cut off right before entering the KML mission area
  • :helicopter: Drone went down exactly where I lost signal

Both crashes happened within a 100m area. This is a rural spot I’ve used often without issues. No antennas or high-voltage stuff nearby. I checked and even filmed the area.

I’m the pilot for a drone surveying company, and I always follow proper flight plans and safety procedures.

:yellow_circle: Could something be interfering with the signal in that zone?
:yellow_circle: Has anyone seen this happen with Mavic 2 Pro before?
:yellow_circle: Is there any chance DJI would help or offer support/compensation?

Honestly just shocked and disappointed. Would really appreciate any help or similar experiences.

Were you watching the drones when they fell? If not, probably a bird.

It’s kinda impossible, statistically, that the same bird hit two drones on two different days :sweat:

:joy: I mean if a bird was nesting nearby, it could be protecting its eggs. That actually seems more likely than two drones just dropping from the sky randomly. If it was signal loss, the drone should’ve hovered or returned home depending on your settings.

@Keir
I had that same thought at first. But for the first drone, the propellers weren’t even damaged. So I’m leaning away from the bird theory now.

I’m a falconer. If this happened in the same general area, it very well could be the same bird, its mate, or even others in the area. Birds are molting right now and get super territorial.

@Ali
Noticed that here in Kansas too. I’ve flown from my front yard for years, but lately I’ve stopped because bird activity is so intense. Do you know how long that lasts?

Until fall!

@Ali
Oh, great… :flushed:

Yeah, birds have been darting at my drone recently too.

@Uma
Funny you say that. I went through some old footage and saw this big white bird zip past my drone—never even noticed it at the time. It flapped wildly and then dove out of frame. Kinda surreal.

Sorry for your loss. Someone might’ve already said it, but any chance it was a signal jammer?

There’s barely anything in that area. It’s super rural, so I doubt it :disappointed:

You could send the flight logs to DJI. Hopefully they’ll take a look and maybe help out if you can explain what happened clearly.

Nice use of AI :sweat_smile:

Yeah, I use it to clean up my writing a bit since English is my third language. Pretty normal, I think?

You’re really only hurting yourself with this… but keep going I guess.

Clear skies, no birds in sight, but as soon as my Mini 4 Pro takes off, a seagull starts circling it. Birds have crazy good vision—they’ll spot your drone from far off.
