I sold my Mini 3 Pro on eBay about two weeks ago since I’m moving to Europe and needed some cash. I sold it with the fly more pack, an extra battery, propellers, and the prop guards for $680, which was a pretty good deal. I logged out of my devices, unbound my DJI account from both the controller and the drone, and deleted my account since I won’t be using a drone in Europe. After the buyer got the drone, they messaged me saying the controller is still tied to an account, and they can’t even use the drone. The email it’s linked to isn’t mine. DJI won’t let us unbind the email without the other person’s permission. We’ve tried contacting the email owner with no luck and even reached out to the eBay store where I bought the controller, but they don’t know either. I’m not sure what’s going on, and I fly out tomorrow, so I just want this done. Any ideas?
Sounds like they’re trying to scam you. Be careful.

Maybe, but what would they gain? It just seems like a waste of time if they’re going to ask for a refund later. It’s a break-even situation.

They might send you a stolen or locked controller that you can’t use. They get the new drone and their money back, and you’re left with a useless one and out the cash.

I have the serial number of my drone and the QR code is in the listing. It’d be really dumb to try that.

The point is they can scam you and profit. Are you new to this or just really trusting? The serial number won’t stop them from trying to get a refund and keeping the drone. They’ll block you in the dispute process, and you could end up with nothing. Don’t send anything back, and make sure your money is safe.

- No need to be rude. It was a legitimate question.
- The original poster is moving to Europe, but that doesn’t mean they’re giving up their accounts. eBay can still freeze PayPal accounts or send the matter to collections.

You obviously haven’t read the whole thread. If I have the serial number, how could they send me a different drone? I can show eBay I got a different device back, and I’m off the hook for the refund. I’m not sending anything back unless eBay makes me.

eBay is known for siding with buyers. Even if you have the serial number, it’s hard to prove you sent the right one. They can just claim they sent back the correct item, and you’d have to fight them in a refund dispute.

So I’m basically screwed if it goes down that path. Great…

eBay usually sides with the buyer. How can you prove the drone you sent is the one they got back? A serial number doesn’t prove much. eBay can’t verify that the drone in question is the one you sent.

They can claim the drone is stolen or locked. It’s a common scam, and they don’t risk anything. Even if you provide proof, it’s still hard to win. Scammers do this every day on these platforms.
If it’s not your account linked to the drone, I don’t see how it’s your issue.

Because eBay tends to favor buyers. Even though I sold it, the buyer could request a refund, and I’d have to give it to them. I’m trying to help so we can avoid that, but I want to be done with this soon.

I get it. Just make sure the drone has the same serial number if it’s returned. Maybe ask the buyer to verify it.

Yep, that’s the plan.

Even if they don’t, eBay likely won’t do anything. They won’t investigate stuff like this.

The serial number is in the firmware, which is hard to fake. If it doesn’t match, eBay should side with you.
Are you sure this isn’t a scam? What’s the buyer’s feedback like?
