Can I actually fly my drone here or is the map wrong?

Hey, hoping someone can help. I’m thinking about getting a lightweight drone (under 249g) and I’ve been checking flight maps. I looked at the area around 38.38555591, -76.38270813. DJI’s app says it’s fine to fly, but B4UFLY says no because of R-4007 restricted airspace. It’s active daily from 7 AM to 11 PM, and sometimes other times by NOTAM. It mentions low altitude only.

Can I fly there, or is there a way to get permission if it’s restricted? Would appreciate any advice!

The DJI app doesn’t decide FAA restrictions. Always follow what B4UFLY or Air Control shows. LAANC controls the airspace, so ignore DJI maps if they conflict.

You’re probably out of luck being so close to the naval air station. You can try the FAA drone zone site to request permission, but I doubt they’ll approve it. It can take up to 60 days to hear back, so it’s not a quick process.

I use Aloft to check maps before I fly. It’s easy to use and pretty accurate.

If you’re in the US, you need a TRUST certificate to fly. The DJI app doesn’t matter for FAA rules. Use B4UFLY or another FAA-approved app. Check every time you fly since restrictions can pop up suddenly.

I didn’t see R-4007 listed on the official site recently, so maybe the restriction ended, but the apps haven’t updated. I wouldn’t risk it today, but it might clear up soon unless new restrictions are added.
