I need some advice about my Typhoon H Yuneec ST16 drone. It was passed down to me from my uncle, who flew it a few times before he passed away in 2021. Later, my father flew it, crashed it, and broke two arms. After $800 in repairs, he decided no one should use it, and it sat unused in a car shop for three years. I found it about a month ago and asked my dad if I could have it since I have some experience flying drones. Last week, I tried flying it but noticed the camera image wasn’t showing on the screen. Later, I got a message saying ‘camera not found.’
I’ve tried refreshing the camera settings on the controller, but it doesn’t detect anything. I also tried the binding tilt and saw blue and orange blinking lights on the drone. The gimbal still tracks when I tilt the drone, but the camera won’t connect. I’ve also tried connecting it to WiFi without luck and don’t know if the firmware on the drone or controller is up to date.
If it’s broken, would I need a new controller, or is there a way to update or repair it without spending a lot of money? I can share videos and pictures of the drone and controller if it helps. Any advice would be appreciated.
It sounds like your drone may need a firmware update or camera rebinding, but without specific details, it’s hard to say. You should check if both the drone and controller firmware are up to date. If updating doesn’t work, you might have to replace some parts, but it’s worth troubleshooting first.
The blue and orange blinking lights often mean the drone is in pairing mode but isn’t completing the process. You might want to check if the camera’s wiring or connectors are loose. Sometimes, just reseating the connectors fixes the issue.
Have you tried reaching out to Yuneec’s customer support? They might be able to provide a firmware file or a troubleshooting guide specific to your drone model. If the camera gimbal moves but doesn’t connect, it could be a software or hardware issue.
If the drone sat unused for years, there’s a chance the internal battery in the camera module could be dead. Replacing that might solve the problem if all other options fail. Look into camera module replacement guides to see if it’s something you can handle yourself.
Before spending money on a new controller or camera, try resetting the controller and re-pairing it with the drone. Sometimes a full reset can fix these connectivity issues. Also, ensure there’s no interference from other WiFi devices nearby.
