I’ll be traveling to the US for a couple of weeks and want to bring my Mini 4 Pro. In New Zealand, I fly with the PLUS batteries since we don’t require registration. If I use the STANDARD batteries while flying in the US, will I be okay without needing to register my drone?
I’ve already completed the TRUST certification. Thanks in advance!
According to the FAA (https://www.faa.gov/uas/resources/foreign_operators), foreign drones don’t qualify for the weight exemption under RID requirements and must be registered in your home country. You might need to check with the appropriate agency in New Zealand for guidance. For example, some travelers from Canada have registered their sub-250g drones and obtained authorization quickly.

That might be a bit tricky since drones in NZ don’t really require registration unless used commercially. Otherwise, we just follow general flying rules.

Honestly, you’ll probably be fine. As long as you fly responsibly, I doubt anyone will hassle you. Just follow common sense and the basic drone rules.

You could also check if the CAA in NZ has any advice for international drone use.
