I have a GPS antenna that I need to make shorter. Is it possible to do this by myself? What tools and steps should I use? Here’s a picture of the antenna: [image link]. Any advice would be helpful!
That antenna isn’t made for a drone. The GPS has to connect to the drone’s flight controller, usually via a six-wire connection. The antenna you’re looking at has an RF connector designed for an RF receiver, but drones need GPS systems that are integrated with the receivers and use a six-wire plug to connect to the controller.
If you’re not experienced with soldering or working with RF, I’d suggest putting this project on hold and buying a shorter antenna. The transmitter expects a very specific resistance from the antenna, and cutting or soldering it without proper knowledge could cause a weak signal.
Typically, those antennas use SMA connectors, though I’m not sure if that’s still the case with newer models.
