Can you really fly a drone in Germany with all these rules?

I just moved to Germany and I’m thinking about getting a DJI Neo. I’ve never owned a drone before, but I’ve always wanted one. Lately, I’ve been reading about Germany’s drone regulations, and it seems like I’d only be able to fly in empty fields. There are so many nature reserves and restricted areas. Are the rules really that strict, or am I overthinking this?

Flying a drone in Germany does come with restrictions, but it’s manageable if you follow the rules. You’ll need to register as a drone pilot and label your drone with an ID sticker. Smaller drones like the DJI Neo don’t require a pilot’s license, so that’s a plus.

Welcome to Germany! Flying drones here can be tricky. Rules are strict, and it might not be the easiest hobby to pick up. But if you’re into it, it’s worth exploring.

Make sure you register with the German flight authority. You’ll also need to put a sticker on your drone with your flight ID. The good news is, for smaller drones like the DJI Neo, you don’t need a license.

You might need local permits depending on where you want to fly. Good luck with it though—Germany is a beautiful place, and drone photography here could be amazing.
