Can't fly in all the cool spots

Gee Atherton, the pro mountain biker, flew drones there last year. Check out this insane video:

Whoa, that descent gave me a heart attack! How many pilots did they have on that crew, and how many drones?!

@DroneDreamer
Did you even read the description?

I skimmed it, saw like 3 or 4 people mentioned… did I miss the number of drones or the model they used?

So no drones are allowed in the Dolomites?

This spot pops up on Forum every now and then. Last time it was posted, people said it’s not forbidden, but the wind currents are really dangerous for drones, especially in the mountains.

Also, most of the drones crashing there are the DJI Minis. The bigger problem is that once these drones crash, their owners leave them behind, which is hazardous for the environment.

@Kai
A couple of years ago, you could fly at Tre Cime without issues!

Tre Cime has a no-drone sign, but you don’t see it until you’ve hiked 1.5km from the parking lot: https://imgur.com/a/dolomite-drones-NsZH2yP

@Soren
Yep, the pic you shared is from Tre Cime!

It doesn’t look like the trailhead but more like the small saddle you cross on the way up.

I was just confirming the mountain in the background is Tre Cime, which is where I flew a few years back.

@Zach
Ah, I get it now. Thanks for clarifying!

Sounds hard to believe.

Yeah, especially with all the drone videos on YouTube from there.

I was there. Drones aren’t allowed because it’s a national park, but a lot of people were still flying them. No one was enforcing the rules: https://imgur.com/a/NsZH2yP

Pretty much all European national parks ban drones.

That’s not true. In Nordic and Baltic countries, not all parks have bans. Maybe the busy ones in western Europe do, but it’s not as widespread as people think.

@Ira
I live in a Nordic country, and flying drones in national parks here is completely illegal.

Which country? In Finland, Norway, and Denmark, not all parks are no-fly zones.

@Ira
In Iceland, Vatnajökull National Park is super strict with drone rules: https://www.vatnajokulsthjodgardur.is/en/thenationalpark/drone-rules

Þingvellir National Park has some timing restrictions: https://www.thingvellir.is/en/administration/licensing/droneflying-for-personal-use/

Other parks have rules like seasonal restrictions or altitude limits.

@AeroWhisperer2
Exactly, some parks have restrictions, but it’s not an outright ban. You just have to follow the local laws. It’s not like you can’t do anything in national parks. In some, you can even log trees.
