Hey everyone! I’m working on a small project and need a programmable drone for indoor use. I want something small, with a decent camera, and it should be able to navigate without GPS.
I currently have a DJI Mini 3, but it’s too large for what I need, and my coding skills with DUML aren’t enough to build a system for it. I’m considering the DJI Tello because it’s small, has Python libraries, and I’ve owned one before. But it’s an older model, and I’m not sure if the regular version works with Python or if that’s only for the EDU versions.
I’ve got a $200 max budget and will probably look for second-hand drones to save some money. Any recommendations? The prices around here aren’t great.
Python works with most Tello drones, so if you can find one at a good price, it should be a decent option. I’ve been testing a few that a university was getting rid of, and they work fine with Python.

Thanks! I’ve seen the EDU or Tello Talent series, but they’re around $300, which is way too much. Used Tellos go for $50-80, which is reasonable. I’d be willing to spend a bit more if it offered some clear benefits, though.
Don’t go for the Tello! DJI has stopped making them, and it’ll be obsolete soon. Check out CrazyFlie. It’s around the same price, more accurate, and has tons of add-ons to make it more versatile.
@Rowan
That looks like a great drone! Unfortunately, I can only find some sketchy sellers on AliExpress with no reviews, and they only have the older 1.0 and 2.0 versions.
Yeah, the Px4 is way outside my $200 budget. I’m planning to use a visual recognition system with colorful labels to help with navigation and minimize any issues.
